PRESS RELEASE RESULTS OF THE PHOTO CONTEST 7/2-31/5/2014
The Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum announces the results of the online photo contest titled ‘Culinary Art, Capturing the Gastronomic Culture of Cyprus’:
Category a: Preparation of traditional dishes 1st prize Charalambos Paraskeva 2nd prize Georgia Themistokleous 3rd prize Markella Kalli Commendation Christina Louka
Category b: Presentation/serving of traditional dishes 1st prize Christina Louka 2nd prize Despo Constantinou 3rd prize Elli Kornioti Commendation Emilia Papapavlou, Elli Kornioti
Category c: Submissions from children under 15 years old There are no winners in this category because of the limited number of submissions.
Awards: All winners will be given an honorary certificate of participation. The three first winners of each category will also be awarded with the publication of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation ‘Common places of bread and wine’ and the ’Gastronomic guide of Marathasa’ (both in Greek). The first winner of category a and b will have the opportunity to travel to Augustow in Poland and represent the Museum in the 3rd meeting of the program Culinary Bridges Across Europe. Young participants in category c will also be awarded. For the selection of the winning images we first considered the votes of the public to choose the 50 first photographs. A three-member jury collaborated to decide the final results. Its members were: Constantinos Charalambous, President of the Cyprus Photographic Society Anthoula Alexandrou, Secretary of the Cyprus Photographic Society Natasa Charalambous, Secretary of the Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum The selection criteria for the winning photographs were the approach to the subject and the visual output of the information, the originality and creativity, the visual storytelling, the composition and technique. Thanks to everyone that participated in the contest, the three-member jury and the Cyprus Photographic Society for the guidance and consulting. Also many thanks to the Fulbright Cyprus Commission for funding the contest, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and the Pedagogical Institute for donating books, and the program Culinary Bridges Across Europe that gives the opportunity to the first prize winners to travel to Poland. A final thanks to the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO for supporting the contest due to the registration of Mediterranean Diet in the Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. We also congratulate the winners for their distinction. An awarding ceremony and an exhibition will follow on June 27th 2014. The place and the time of the event will be announced soon.
